Monash University – Museums Victoria PhD Research Scholarship 2025

The Monash University – Museums Victoria PhD Research Scholarship is available for international students from around the world who want to pursue PhD research studies at Monash University, Australia, for the academic year 2025-2026. This Ph.D. Scholarship offers an annual stipend of $5,000.

The Robert Blackwood partnership is a joint effort between Monash University and Museums Victoria. Its goal is to support new research ideas and projects that lead to high-impact collaborations and important external funding.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Monash University – Museums Victoria PhD Research Scholarship, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Required Language:

  • General English Language Test:
    • IELTS: Overall score of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0)
    • TOEFL: Overall score of 79+ with minimum scores of Reading 13, Listening 12, Speaking 18, and Writing 21
  • For Arts, Business, and Economics:
    • IELTS: Overall score of 7.0 (no band less than 6.5)
    • TOEFL: Overall score of 94+ with minimum scores of Reading 19, Listening 20, Speaking 20, and Writing 24

Other Requirements:

  • Must be a full-time PhD student, either commencing or continuing, and enrolled in Research Quarter 1 at a Monash campus in Australia.
  • Must be working on projects co-supervised by Monash and Museums Victoria or focused on aspects of Museums Victoria’s collection.
  • Must be in the first two years of candidature and meet all course requirements (e.g., milestones) in a timely manner.
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree requiring at least four years of full-time study in a relevant field, including a research component in the fourth year, leading to an honours 1 or 2A in a relevant field.
  • Must have completed a course leading to a qualification considered equivalent to an honours 1 or 2A in a relevant field by the department, faculty, or committee.
  • Must have a master’s degree with a significant research component, including at least 25% of one full-time equivalent year of work, including a thesis. A grade of honours 2A or higher in the research thesis or project is expected.
  • Must have qualifications deemed equivalent by the Graduate Research Committee (GRC).
  • Scholarships are awarded based on academic record, research output, and prior research experience.
  • Must not have previously held an Australian Government or Monash-funded Postgraduate Research Award for more than six months.

To retain this scholarship:

  • You must comply with Monash University’s RTP Scholarship policy and procedures.
  • You must be willing to participate in activities that showcase the Robert Blackwood Partnership, such as research seminars and promotional events.
  • You will need to complete a report on your collaboration with Museums Victoria after submitting your thesis.
