University of Waterloo Scholarship Coverage
The University of Waterloo Scholarships provide the following benefits:
- David Johnston–Lebovic Foundation International Experience Awards:
- Up to $2,500 for a one-term study experience.
- $2,500 to $5,000 for a one-term work or volunteer experience.
- Up to $10,000 for a two-term work or volunteer experience.
- International Master’s Award of Excellence:
- $2,500 per term for a maximum of 6 terms.
Eligibility Criteria for University of Waterloo Scholarships
To be eligible for University of Waterloo Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Required Languages: English
- Eligible Countries: All world countries
- Academic Requirements:
- For undergraduate students: a minimum of 70% average.
- For graduate students: a minimum of 75% average.
- Program Requirements:
- Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in any faculty.
- Applicants must wish to participate in an international experience, including:
- Minimally-paid or volunteer international co-op work placement.
- Volunteer placement.
- Academic exchange.
- Study term related to academic requirements.
- Study Permit: International students must have a valid Canadian study permit and be assessed international tuition fees.
- Program Type:
- Primarily awarded to students in research-based programs (e.g., thesis or major research paper).
- Typically awarded to students entering the first term of their program.
- Academic Excellence: Students must demonstrate academic excellence as per faculty criteria.
- Academic Progress: Applicants must meet the academic progress requirements of their program and not have outstanding probationary admission requirements.
- Concurrent Funding: Normally, students should not be receiving foreign government or agency sponsorship or be self-funded beyond the Faculty minimum support levels.
- Automatic Consideration: Students will be automatically considered for the award based on their application for admission. Departments or Faculties may have their own selection process based on the eligibility criteria.
- Additional Restrictions:
- Students grand-parented under the existing IMSA program cannot be nominated for an IMAE.
- A student who has previously been awarded an IMSA for a completed master’s degree can be nominated for the IMAE.

- Candidates need to take admission at the university in undergraduate and graduate degree program. After taking admission, candidates can access the application on their forms pages.
- Applicants need to attach a personal statement which will refer to the application form. All applicants must provide evidence of their English language ability to meets the minimum requirements for admission.
