The Italian Government Scholarship 2025-2026 is a fully funded scholarship for international students to pursue a master’s or PhD at top Italian universities. This scholarship includes the following benefits:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) aims to promote scientific and technological cooperation, international cultural exchange, the Italian language, and culture. It also supports Italy’s economic system worldwide (according to Law 288/55 and its subsequent changes and additions). Scholarships are available for study, training, and/or research programs at Italian Higher Education Institutes, including public and legally recognized institutions.

- Offered Courses: You can apply for any course organized by universities recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR). However, it is the applicant’s responsibility to directly verify with the chosen university if the course is available.
- Program Period: The scholarship duration can be three, six, or nine months, depending on the type of course.

Scholarship Coverage
The Italian Government Scholarship provides the following benefits to the recipient:
- Health and Medical Insurance: Grantees will be covered by health and medical/accident insurance contracted by MAECI for the entire duration of the grant. However, the insurance will not cover events caused by pre-existing physical or medical conditions.
- Tuition Fees: Grantees may be exempted from paying enrollment and tuition fees, depending on the policies of the chosen university. Note that this exemption does not apply to courses in Italian language and culture, for which enrollment fees are required.
- Financial Grant: Grantees will receive a monthly allowance of 900 euros, paid quarterly to their Italian bank account.
Eligibility Criteria for Italian Government Scholarship
To be eligible for the Italian Government Scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Required Language: English
- Eligible Countries: Students from eligible foreign countries
- Age Limit:
- Applicants for Master’s Degree, Higher Education in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM) Programs, or Italian Language and Culture Courses should not be over 28 years old by the deadline of this call, except for renewals.
- Applicants for PhD Programs should not be over 30 years old by the deadline of this call, except for renewals.
- Applicants for Research Projects under academic supervision should not be over 40 years old by the deadline of this call.
- Residency: Applications must be submitted by foreign students not residing in Italy.
- Language Proficiency:
- Proof of Italian language proficiency is not required for courses taught entirely in English.
- Applicants for Research Projects must provide a language certificate proving proficiency in English. The minimum required level is B2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- For Italian Language and Culture courses, applicants must provide a certificate of proficiency in Italian, with a minimum level of A2 (CEFR).
- Academic Qualifications:
- Applicants for a Master’s Degree in Italy must have completed a Bachelor’s degree in their home country. For admission to the second year, applicants must show that they are on track with their first-year studies.
- Applicants for Italian AFAM Institutes must meet the entry requirements and academic qualifications set by the relevant University/Institute.
- Applicants for PhD programs must meet the entry requirements of the Italian University and provide a letter of acceptance from the relevant institution.
- Research Projects: Grants for research projects can be awarded for projects carried out at Italian Research Institutions (e.g., Italian Research Council – CNR, Italian National Institute of Health – ISS, Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics – INFN, Italian National Institute for Astrophysics – INAF, The Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research – ISPRA) under the academic supervision of public Universities or Museums and Archives.
