The ICFO Fellowship 2025-2026 is a fully funded scholarship for international students. It is available for Undergraduate, Masters, PhD, and Postdoctoral levels. The fellowship covers the full tuition fee, provides a monthly stipend, and covers travel expenses.
ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences offers students the chance to do Final Degree Projects, Masters’ Theses, or take part in a research stay. This helps students grow in their education and research training.
The program was created thanks to the “Severo Ochoa Centres of Excellence” award given by Spain’s Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. This award aims to improve scientific research in Spain. The program offers a small number of fellowships to top students from the best universities around the world.
The goal of this program is to give students early exposure to advanced science and research. It also supports talented students to experience the challenges and excitement of working on research projects at ICFO.

Scholarship Coverage
The ICFO Fellowship offers the following benefits to recipients:
For Undergraduate and Masters:
- Students living in Catalunya will receive a monthly stipend of 300 euros (gross).
- Students who do not live in Catalunya will receive a monthly stipend of 600 euros (gross) for full-time dedication.
- Eligible travel expenses are also covered.

Eligibility Criteria for ICFO Fellowship
Applicants must meet the following criteria for the ICFO Fellowship:
- Required Languages: English
- Eligible Countries: Open to all countries worldwide
- Candidates must be enrolled or registered in an undergraduate or master’s program during the internship at ICFO. Eligible fields include, but are not limited to, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.
- Fellows are selected based on merit and potential, which are evaluated through academic records and personal achievements. Proactive attitudes, participation in community activities, and the ability to work in teams are also considered.
