Korea Visa Photo Requirements and Guidelines

Korea visa photo requirements, photo specifications, and other relevant details including K-eta photo requirements

Here are the Korea visa photo requirements you have to keep in mind when applying for your visa:

  • Format and size.
  • Background and quality.
  • Facial requirements.
  • Accessories.
  • Requirements for Children.

You can get your high-quality photograph that complies with all the Korea visa photo requirements at MyBiometricPhotos. You simply need to choose “Korea Visa Photo”  under ‘What type of photo do you need?” and upload your photo. The photo is then processed digitally to ensure it meets the requirements of Korean authorities. Since the entire process is completed online, you can print the photos yourself to a place of your choosing.

Format and Size

The photo size for a South Korean visa must be 35 x 45 mm, while your face must be fully seen at a length of 25 x 35 mm. The photo must be recent, specifically not older than six months.

Background and Quality

The background must be plain, preferably white or a similar color. It must be clear and evenly lit, without any marks, other objects, people, signs, designs, or other colors. The picture must also be of high quality and resolution where your face is visible with no over or under shadows, reflections, or bad lighting.

Facial Requirements

You must keep a neutral expression on your face without smiling or frowning. Also, you must look at the camera directly while keeping your head slightly tilted and forward. You must also keep your eyes open, your mouth closed, and your ears must be visible. Additionally, your head must be completely visible from the top of your hair to the chin, and you cannot sit too far away from the camera.

Accessories

Head coverings, glasses, turbans, or hats are allowed only for religious or medical purposes. If you wear prescription glasses, you need to ensure the lenses do not reflect, nor does the frame cover your eyes. Additionally, you may be required to bring a doctor’s note showing that you need to carry glasses, but in this case, it’s best to contact the nearest South Korean embassy in your home country.

Requirements for Children

In the case of children, they may be photographed by holding them— provided you are not visible in the picture. Otherwise, children’s photos must follow the same size, background, and quality requirements.

K-eta Photo Requirements

K-eta is an electronic travel authorization similar to the American ESTA, which is required for nationals of countries that can enter South Korea visa-free or have a visa waiver agreement. You must apply for travel authorization 24 hours before travel, and during the application process, you need to prepare a photograph.

The K-eta photo must meet the following requirements:

  • The file needs to be JPG/JPEG.
  • The file size must be less than 300 KB; usually, the size is automatically adjusted when you upload your file.
  • The photo must follow the background and quality requirements of a printable photo.

However, during the application process, you will receive instructions on how to upload the photo and whether a photo is required, as sometimes it may not be a requirement for your K-eta application.

How to Submit My Photo for a Korea Visa?

There are two different ways to submit your photo for a South Korea visa depending on the method of your application:

  • If you apply for a paper-based application, you need to glue the picture to your application either with stick glue or scotch tape. But, you need to verify this with your country’s nearest South Korean embassy or consulate.
  • If you apply for K-eta, then all you have to do is upload the image file in the electronic application form.

How to take a Korea Visa Photo?

There are some different ways you can take your South Korea visa photo:

  • At a professional photo agency. You can find a local photo studio familiar with taking photos for a Korean visa and adjust the size and format for you and make sure the photo is of good quality.
  • At a visa center. Some visa centers may have a photo booth at their building where you can pay to take your visa photo.
  • At home by yourself. You can opt to take the photo at home without having to pay someone to take your photo. But, for this option, you need a good-quality camera, a clean space to set up your background, and the ability to adjust the size on your own.

Some online tools and websites allow you to upload the photo you took and help you fix the size and format as required.
